Yesterday I dipped my toe into the world of solo travel at the Walt Disney World Resort. I have always traveled to Disney with friends and family throughout the 30 years of my life thus far. We see all these photos of families having fun at Disney, can you still have that much fun solo? I was determined to check it out.
Long story short, I’m in Orlando this weekend to spend some time with friends. I had a couple hours to kill yesterday so I figured I would go spend a few hours alone at the Magic Kingdom Park. This was the first time out with my Annual Pass as well. I would venture to say that the park was moderately busy. Your big attractions all with 75+ minute waits naturally (Splash Mountain, Big Thunder, Space Mountain and Mine Train). Thankfully when I booked my plane ticket a week ago for this trip, I was able to scoop up a FastPass for Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion.
The first thing I did was head for my first fast pass (and also do a live video on Periscope walking down Main Street USA). My first ride of the day was Pirates of the Caribbean, I never get sick of that ride. After that I headed over to the official location of “Treat Yo Self”, Aloha Isle for my Dole Whip Float! This is what dreams are made of. My go to is the Pineapple Dole Whip swirl with Vanilla Dole Whip in the Pineapple Juice. It is so good and the best part was that I didn’t have to share it!
After treating myself, I decided to ride Haunted Mansion and head over towards Fantasyland. Little Mermaid Ride and Phillhar Magic had practically no waits. Not to mention with Phillhar you get to sit down in air conditioning for a good chunk of time. This attraction was pretty dead too. I mean come on, it is time out in the cool air.
After a few quick rides, it was time for Space Mountain. I mean you have to go out with a bang. The FastPass line was a bit long for this ride but hey, it is in the air conditioning. Are you noticing a trend? Haha. After that, I walked back down Main Street USA through the shops on the left hand side by the Ice Cream Parlor. I’m always amazed with the new Disney Merchandise. My final stop landed me in the Confectionary. I love looking at all the caramel apples and picking up a rice crispy treat for Olivia.
Overall, I had a fantastic time. Yes do I enjoy having someone to talk to but this was just a different experience. I wasn’t worried about trying to please other people. All I had to do was for me. I walked at my own pace, I wasn’t in a hurry and I could do what I want. Call it selfish if you will but I call it me time. Taking Disney at my own pace allowed me to appreciate more things than before. A little time to stop and smell the roses if I say so myself.
Would you ever try Disney Solo?
