I am back with a new hotel review for all of you today. In an effort to bring you a variety of postings I decided to try a weekend staycation in a boutique hotel. We hopped over to Buffalo which is a great vacation destination for a weekend or extended trip. From Buffalo you can go to Niagara Falls, Toronto, Rochester and the Finger Lakes all within a 2 hour radius. If you are heading that way this boutique hotel review of the Curtiss Hotel is worth consideration.
Overview of the Hotel
The Curtiss Hotel is a boutique hotel that is part of the Ascend Collection from Choice Hotels. The Ascend Collection is compromised of unique, boutique-style hotels. Most major hotel chains have a “soft brand” version for boutique hotels. This provides the hotels with some support in promoting their hotels while retaining their independent culture and style. The Curtiss Hotel is restored historic hotel in the heart of downtown.
Amenities
This hotel has a lot of unique features. My personal favorite was Vue, the rooftop lounge. Sitting up in the firepit area at night with the lit-up Buffalo skyline is perfect! In the lobby of the hotel, you have the restaurant, Chez Ami, and the revolving bar. This hotel also hosts Sunday Brunch. My personal recommendation is to get the delicious cod dish for dinner and go to the bar for a handcrafted nightcap. There is also the Buffalo Chophouse restaurant which we did not get a chance to eat at. The Curtiss is also unique with a Hot Springs indoor/outdoor pool area. As for parking, there is valet available.
The Rooms
The rooms are beautifully decorated and armed with the latest in hotel technology. I booked a standard king room with a great city view. The bedroom had floor to ceiling windows and a large flat screen tv over the desk. On one of the night stands you will find a touch screen tablet that lets you order extra towels, pillows and wine glasses. It also has controls for the lights and the drapes with other features built into it. The bathroom was my favorite. It has a roomy shower with four different kinds of sprayer (including a rainfall shower head) and a bidet toilet.
There is a Keurig coffee station by door to every room with a mini bar. Keep in mind that the two bottles of Curtiss water are complimentary but the other items and snacks cost extra. The rooms are very spacious and there are suites available. Since this hotel was recently renovated the mattresses are in great condition and are very comfortable.
Perks with Reservation
If you book your reservation through the Choice Hotels, you are eligible for Choice Privileges points that can be used towards free nights. Inside of your key card there are a couple coupons. One is for buy one, get one free drinks at Vue, the rooftop lounge. The second is for 10% off in the restaurant. Every reservation also includes a continental breakfast. During Covid-19 outbreak, they individually boxed up orders based on a circled, one use menu.
Final Thoughts
I really like staying at boutique hotels. Each of them is different and unique. They tend to represent the neighborhood around them. The Curtiss Hotel is a nice blend of luxury and small scale. It was nice to take a break and be pampered for a weekend. I highly recommend the Curtiss hotel for a nice romantic getaway. It was such a great experience that I’m actually looking to book it again.
Buffalo has a great variety of local breweries, sports teams, entertainment, and is very close to Niagara Falls and Canada. I recommend trying it out for a long weekend. I hope you enjoyed this boutique hotel review of the Curtiss Hotel.
