My Most Recent Experience
I booked an overnight at the Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Beach Resort after my cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas in December 2019. Flying home on a Sunday is always more expensive. I’m the type of person who’d rather spend that extra money at a beautiful hotel on a beach and book the cheaper Monday flight. As some of you know, I’ve been working in hotels for over a decade. I stayed at this property in August 2018 under and employee rate when I worked for Hilton and just fell in love with it so it was a no brainer to stay again.
It was Sunday morning and I called the front desk to ask if we could store our luggage until our room was ready. I never have the expectation of getting an early and always advise that you don’t either. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes at a hotel and you need to keep in mind that the previous guest is normally not out of that room until 11am/12pm. This hotel has a great bell staff team that tickets your luggage and stores it for you. You then get directed to the front desk who will give you a little card packet so you have access to all the amenities until your room is ready. They also have a texting service to let you know when your room is available as well!
We arrived at 9:30am and the front desk staff was as pleasant as always. I was asked what brought me to the area and I informed them that I was on a cruise for my wedding anniversary with my husband and friends. The front desk agent upgraded me to a beautiful oceanview junior suite without even asking. He gave us our tickets so we could get our beach loungers and charge for drinks/food while we waited.
While we waited we enjoyed the pool and sun deck for a while before making our way down to the beach. There is something about just floating in the ocean that is so peaceful. After all this we worked up an appetite and headed to their restaurant ILIOS. This restaurant is located near the pool deck and is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and has seasonal menus. Thankfully they were changing over to lunch and weren’t too busy and could seat us without a reservation. Keep in mind that this place can get busy due to its location by the pool. You can always make reservations ahead of time too! We ordered some amazing fish tacos and appetizers. By the time we finished our meal, we received the text that our room was ready early.
The Room
Where do I even start? This room was breath taking! I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped to the floor and I’m surprised I didn’t trip over it. This room had a seperate living area with a pull out bed, a private bedroom, full bath, kitchen and wrap around balcony. The bed was so comfortable. I laid down for “a minute” and fell asleep for an entire 90 minutes. After enjoying some time on the balcony we came inside and heard a knock at the door. We opened it up and there was a server with wine and chocolate covered strawberries courtesy of the hotel for our anniversary. This is what hospitality is about. Surprise and delight!
