4 Things You Have To Do in Nassau

July 21, 2020

I have been to Nassau more times than I can count. It is a popular stop of cruise ships and an easy destination to reach from Florida. The ocean is gorgeous and the beaches are soft and sandy. Today we are going to discuss some of my favorite things to do in Nassau to inspire your next trip. I hope you enjoy this travel guide of things to do in Nassau, Bahamas.

Conch Fritters

Order Conch Everything

My first experience with conch was at my wedding reception in Nassau. My wedding planner highly recommended conch fritters (queen conch mixed in a peppery batter and fried). People were skeptical when the first tray came out but once they tried them they were attacking the servers every time they came out with a new tray. You can order conch in many different ways from salads to fritters and fried. This Bahamian delicacy should not be missed!

Atlantis Resort in Nassau

Visit Paradise Island

Paradise Island is home to a variety of activities, hotels, casinos, restaurants, bars, and nightlife. The most famous area is at Atlantis Resort & Water Park. This hotel has so many features you would easily need a week to go through all of them. If you are visiting on a cruise ship there are excursions that can take you to the resort and waterpark. Paradise Island is easily accessible by taxi from the cruise port. My favorite beach is Happy Beach which is a public beach.

Dolphin Swim at Dolphin Cay in Atlantis

Dolphin Swimming at Dolphin Cay

I have personally taken my family to their dolphin swim at Dolphin Cay which helps rescue dolphins. It was a really great experience because we were in a small group of 5 and had a great time with the dolphins. They had all of the gear and a photographer so you can really enjoy your experience. This is more expensive than other excursions but I believe it was worth it for the more exclusiveness and it is more ethical.

Shopping at the Straw Market

This is not for the faint of heart. In the heat of the summer, I swear the straw market is the hottest place on earth. This is where you will go to get cheap little souvenirs to take home. You can bargain and barter in this location. This was a great place for my daughter to purchase small souvenirs to take back to her class.

Sample Rum Cakes

The Rum Cake Factory is a delightful treat in Nassau. If you happen upon it, you have to go in and sample. I didn’t know that there were so many varieties of rum cake and they are all delicious. This is a delicious spot to pick up something to bring home with you.

Empress of the Seas docked in Nassau

My Review

Nassau is a great intro destination. The people are friendly and the location is beautiful. Our family has enjoyed many trips to this destination. When I stop via cruise ship we always get off for some conch fritters, cracked conch, and a cold beverage. I hope you give these things to do in Nassau a try on your next trip.
