New Year, New Goals, New Adventures

January 3, 2017

Happy New Year Everyone!

2017 is definitely going to be an amazing year!  I am determined to make it so.  There are many great destinations on the docket: Puerto Rico, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Antigua, St. Maarten, NYC, Dallas, Cuba and Mexico just to name for now.  As I sit here and look ahead to the future, I realize how blessed I am to be able to travel as much as I do.  I also realize more and more how lucky I am to live in the city that I do.

Rochester, New York is not your typical hyped city when you think of destination travel.  It is not a headline city, it is a gateway city.  Rochester opens the door.  It is the homebase for a whirlwind trip to Niagara Falls and the Finger Lakes.  This homebase is loaded with great museums, sports, theater, shopping, wine and much more!

For New Years Eve I thought about going to Buffalo.  The bars are open until 4am and I had a great employee stay rate available.  I decided to change direction for something more relaxed before my cruise.  I decided to go the West Edge Restaurant in Lounge in the Cornhill Landing neighborhood right on the river.  There was live music and it was the ideal spot for fireworks.

This was my first time ever shooting fireworks with Nikon, let alone seeing fireworks in downtown.  I started with some shots of the Freddie-Sue Bridge. I had a great spot set up with my tripod for the fireworks (or so I thought).  Once they started shooting off, I realized how close we actually were.  I quickly pulled off of my tripod as I deemed it useless for how close we were.  I booked it down the side of the river about 60 feet back so I could get some shots with the bridge in it.  Of course it started lightly raining while being 20 degrees.  I didn’t care, I kept shooting because it was so beautiful.

I am very pleased with the photos I was able to get.  It was definitely a crazy experience.  I could barely move my fingers by the time I was done since it was pretty cold and wet.  However, it was totally worth it!

I hope you all have had a great start to the New Year.  I will be leaving Friday for my trip to Puerto Rico and my Southern Caribbean cruise.  Make sure you are following me on snapchat, instagram, periscope and facebook to get all the updates throughout my trip!
