Today, I am going to take you on a journey back to Costa Maya, Mexico. Costa Maya is an interesting port needless to say. This port is extremely touristy and feels like a tourism mecca in the middle of nowhere. However, that isn’t per say a bad thing if you are looking for a safe beach day with anything you could want.
Down the strip in Mahahual, you have many choices of where you can spend your money. There are beach clubs up and down the strip. Some offering all inclusive pricing and some offering a la carte. Sprinkled in between these places are gift shops, drug stores and even an ice cream parlor. I did a lot of research because I wanted to find something new compared to the old faithfuls that you read about in forums.
After many hours of researching I came across Yaya Beach Club. Yaya is about 4-5 blocks down from the Krazy Lobster. You can either do a la carte or an all inclusive option. We opted for the all inclusive option for $44.99 that was unlimited drinks as well as lunch. They also have a kids all inclusive option for $24.99. We reserved online before arriving (they have a guaranteed refund if you miss the port or if there is heavy rain). We also opted for a beach massage ($15 for 30 minutes or $20 for 60 minutes).
Upon arrival we went up to the bar which is surrounded by swings and a cushioned seating area. We were met by many smiling faces and were introduced to Luciano who would be our attendant for the day. The bartender gave us our bracelets and then we followed Luciano to the beach. There were 5 of us total and we had the whole front corner of the beach club. Our area was equipped with a raised canopy beach bed, a table with chairs and umbrella as well as sun loungers. This was far more than we expected.
It was a beautiful day at the beach. The beach has patches of seaweed in the shallows but the water was still beautiful. I always laugh when people complain about seaweed, you’re by the ocean! The nice thing about this beach is that there is a barrier a couple hundred yards out so the water is constantly calm and shallow. It is great to have that peace of mind with kids. Olivia didn’t get out of the water 95% of the day.
The staff was amazing. Luciano was so attentive. We never were without beverages. He even brought out buckets of bottled water for us. I sipped on the margaritas while Olivia guzzled down the smoothies (they used bagged, purified ice so you don’t need to worry about that). Luciano would even bring us shots of tequila while we were out wading in the ocean. We literally wanted for nothing. The lunch consisted of tacos, nachos, quesadillas and fresh guacamole which was amazing!
I would go back to Yaya in a heartbeat. It was a great location and had an amazing staff. We left Yaya feeling so relaxed and at ease. I’m typically not a beach bum on port days but it was so nice to relax. I hope you give them a try if you are in Costa Maya. I will leave their information below!
