Did you know that Disney World has water parks? A lot of people tend to forget about them. Up until this most recent trip, I hadn’t been to a water park in fifteen years. Disney World has two water parks: Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. I decided I needed a refresher so I can tell you how to make the most of your trip to my favorite water park, Typhoon Lagoon.
Tip #1: Get to the Park when it opens. This entitles you to a good parking spot and virtually no lines.
Tip #2: Claim a home base. There are locker rentals if you have valuables you don’t want to leave in a chair. After you lock those up, you do need to find some chairs to call home base. I recommend the sandy section by the Storm Slides. Everyone always darts for the wave pool area and it gets very crowded. This area (near H on the map) is more secluded but is close to a few attractions.
Tip #3: Hit the slides first. The last thing you want to do is to be standing in the sun between the hours of 11:30am-3pm, waiting for a 30 second slide ride. Getting to the park when it opens allows you to do the slides with hardly any wait.
Tip #4: Take the lazy way. After Olivia and I finished the storm slides and the attractions on that side of the park, we took the lazy river (Castaway Creek) around to the Mayday Falls area. The walkways around the wave pool get very crowded so taking the lazy river lets you keep cool and have fun while moving around the park.
Tip #5: Know before you Go. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is a nice break from the normal theme park hustle and bustle. They require family appropriate swim attire and certain types of full body suits are not allowed on specific rides. Disney has a lot of great tips from free life jackets to cabana rentals. Tip #6: Decide what is best for your family. Just like the other theme parks, you don’t want to keep little kids at a water park for 8 hours. By utilizing the previous tips, Olivia and I finished this park in 3.5 hours. We packed up and headed back to take a nice afternoon nap
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach water parks are a great way to change up your Disney Vacation. They let you slow down and enjoy a bit more quality family time. Keep in mind that these parks typically close in the winter months for refurbishment and there are also great add ons in the summer months like H2O Glow Parties. Trying a Disney World water park may be the key to making your trip magical!
