Is Royal Caribbean’s Playmakers worth the cost?

October 31, 2019

I used to be the type of cruiser that would never do speciality dining. My school of thought was that the included food always suited my needs. This is back when I used to cruise once a year and was on a strict budget. Now that I am blessed to cruise multiple times a year, I tend to want to change up my experience. In this post, I’m going to tell you why Royal Caribbean’s Playmakers Bar and Grill is worth the cost.

About the Venue

I’ve said for years that I’d love to see a traditional sports bar with wings and games on a Royal Caribbean ship. If you love this kind of atmosphere and don’t want to miss the game, this is the venue for you. Playmakers is equipped with multiple big screens for watching your favorite teams. There is a large bar and ample table seating options inside as well. The bar has some of your favorite games from pool to darts and Jenga to enhance your competitive experience.

The Food

Where do I even begin? I know I just ordered what looks like a simple burger but it was amazing! This is better than the Johnny Rocket’s burgers that I’ve had on other ships as a “specialty” item.  The burger is paired with steak cut french fries to complete this classic bar food combo. A bunch of my friends have sampled different items from wings to the chicken sandwich with no complaints.

The Bar

Playmakers has a great spread of beverages. They have an assortment of beers from IPAs to a variety of domestic/international. In true sports bar form, you can order pitchers of beer for the whole gang. Don’t worry if beer isn’t your thing, there are plenty of cocktails. Playmakers also features wine and hard ciders.

Final Thoughts

I highly recommend giving Playmakers a try. It is a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the buffet. Sometimes when I’m traveling, I want a break from the rich food. A simple burger or wings could easily do the trick. If you are planning on going to Playmakers to watch a big game, get there early. This place will fill up.  Royal Caribbean’s Playmakers is worth it!
